My choice: See You Soon---Tyler Rabinowitz
Because the characters in the play don't seem to have names, I choose one of their specific lines in the play as their names. The man who lives in LA is [a eucalyptus tree], and the man who lives in New York is [koala].
This short film is about a man who lives in La going to New York in a short period of time to meet a man he met and fell in love with online. After they met, their relationship with each other took a step further. But [a eucalyptus tree] had to leave New York to return to La because he couldn't afford to change the plane. This film only has 16 minutes, but when I finished watching it, I was very sad.
Many of the shooting angles of this film are very good.
Eg:
These two pictures are the beginning of the film. When [a eucalyptus tree] was lying in bed and making a video call with [koala], they expressed their excitement on the phone. [a eucalyptus tree] is shot from a high angle. And this shot is very close to his face. I can see from this lens that except for the light on his face, it's dark all around. This is a contrast with the surrounding environment, but also a very real shot. Many people like to use mobile phones with the lights off.
[koala] appears on the screen of the mobile phone, and this angle is shot from the perspective of [a eucalyptus tree]. The surroundings are dark, too. From this shot, I also saw [a eucalyptus tree] reach out to touch [koala] on the screen of the mobile phone. I think this shot really touched me.
[a eucalyptus tree] and [koala] are embracing for the first time. They're not in the middle of the shot. I think it's going to interest the audience. Because I will pay attention to the weather in the place where two people meet. For example, through the sun in the background of two people, I can see that the weather when two people meet is very sunny. This is also compared with the weather when the latter two people are separated.
This shot shows [a eucalyptus tree] and [koala] walking together on the road. I'm not sure if it's a bridge. The camera is far away from them. They came in from a distance. This lens makes me feel very beautiful. As they walk, they communicate and walk into each other's heart. In this shot, they approached from a distance, which also made me feel that they were closer to each other through communication. In addition, the director put the two people in the center of the camera, which can make the audience only pay attention to them, and compared with the people sitting on the chair next to them.
This shot is [a eucalyptus tree] and [koala] playing the piano together. The first shot shows [a eucalyptus tree] hands, while the second shot shows [a eucalyptus tree] left hand and [koala] right hand. In this part of the film, the director filmed two people's hands. Because communication makes two people know each other better. And [koala] also put forward the idea of playing piano with [a eucalyptus tree]. [a eucalyptus tree] first played a piece with both hands, then he took his right hand down and let [koala]'s right hand follow. They play the music that [koala] likes together (I'm not sure if it's Chopin's music. In the film [koala] says that he likes Chopin very much.) The content of this paragraph is also very beautiful for me. The shooting is very close to the hands of two people, and the angle is through the side to shoot the hands of two people. Although the camera shot only two people's hands and accompanied by playing piano music, I think this content can make the audience feel that their relationship is gradually getting better.
This shot shows [a eucalyptus tree] and [koala] lying on the hammock in the room together. The shooting angle is from a high angle. At this time, the two are still slowly understanding. Through this clip, I also saw two people tell each other, so that it's the first time for them to get to know someone online and actually meet each other.
This shot is close to [koala's] feet. The two of them were still in the hammock at this time. The background sound is the string of the hammock is snapping.
At first I didn't know what the sound was, but then they fell on the floor of the room together, and I realized it was the sound of the hammock. In this part, I also see that the hammock in [koala]'s room can only bear the weight of one person. This may be the first time [koala] has been lying in a hammock with a loved one.
This shot is [a eucalyptus tree] and [koala] confirming each other's hearts. The camera is very close to their faces. I see each other in their eyes, and I see love in their eyes.
This part of the film is [a eucalyptus tree] packing up before leaving and putting up the hammock in [koala's] room again. This shot is very close to the hand and hammock. And the focus of this part is also compared. The background is sleeping [koala]. Because [a eucalyptus tree] is about to leave, he wants his room back to its original state.
This clip of the film is [a eucalyptus tree] and [koala] because they can't promise each other that they will meet each other in the future, and make the last intimacy before they leave. The shooting technique is to place two people in the middle of the lens. This allows the audience to focus on only two people.
This is the scene of [a eucalyptus tree] getting in the car and leaving. Even if [a eucalyptus tree] got in the car, he still said goodbye to [koala]. He didn't want to leave [koala], because he really loves him. This shot is close to [a eucalyptus tree]. It should have been shot by installing a lens in the car's rearview mirror.
The part that made me cry was when [a eucalyptus tree] wanted to find a tissue, but found [koala] doll Mortimer in his bag. This angle is close to the doll.
The same with the former one.---This shot is close to [a eucalyptus tree]. It should have been shot by installing a lens in the car's rearview mirror.
I can see it through the camera that the weather of [a eucalyptus tree] and [koala] when they separated was as sunny as the day they met.
I think this part makes me feel very deeply. After the departure of [a eucalyptus tree], life will continue. [koala] can't go to La because of school, [a eucalyptus tree] can't go to New York because of work and poverty. The two fell in love with each other in almost a week and became concerned about each other. [a eucalyptus tree] might look like it's never been here. They are passers-by in each other's lives.
I enjoy this short film very much.
